Cayman Islands: tokenization regime, cost and constraints
VASP registration; fund registration. Fits when: fund domicile for institutional crypto and tokenised fund structures. The constraint to plan around: domicile alone does not solve distribution into investor jurisdictions.
Last verified 22 July 2026
Cayman is a fund domicile, and that is the whole of its role here. For institutional crypto and tokenised fund structures it holds the vehicle, with a VASP regime and fund regimes that the market and its service providers understand. CIMA raised several fund and VASP fees with effect from 1 January 2026.
What a Cayman vehicle does not do is solve distribution. Where your investors sit determines what you may offer them and how, and that analysis is separate from the domicile — a point worth making because "we are Cayman-domiciled" is sometimes offered as though it answered the marketing question. It does not.

Before you rely on this
This page is reference material, not legal advice, and a regime that changed after 22 July 2026 may no longer match what is above. Verify against the regulator's own material and check any claimed licence against the official register — in a market moving this fast, a claimed regulatory status is not a confirmed one.
