British Virgin Islands: tokenization regime, cost and constraints

VASP registration; fund registration. Fits when: lower-cost offshore spv or fund vehicle. The constraint to plan around: separate regime from cayman despite frequently being quoted together.

Last verified 22 July 2026

The BVI is the lower-cost offshore alternative to Cayman for an SPV or fund vehicle, governed by its own VASP Act and fund regimes. The two are routinely quoted together, which is where the trouble starts: they are separate jurisdictions with separate regulators, separate fee schedules and separate registration requirements, and a structure designed for one does not transfer unexamined to the other.

Public cost evidence for BVI specifically is thin. The figures we hold come from sources that quote it alongside other offshore options rather than pricing it on its own, and we show them as such rather than presenting a BVI-specific number that no source actually published.

Published cost evidence

2 published figures in our dataset are attributed to this jurisdiction. Each carries its own source, currency, cadence and date. Most public pricing in this market comes from providers selling the service they are pricing — the "Sells this?" column says which. Nothing here is averaged.

Read these as evidence of what is claimed, not as a quote. See the full cost index for how components are normalised and where sources contradict each other, and how to use these numbers before you ask anyone for a price.

What changed recently

The BVI VASP Act governs registration; the regime is separate from Cayman despite the two being quoted together.

Before you rely on this

This page is reference material, not legal advice, and a regime that changed after 22 July 2026 may no longer match what is above. Verify against the regulator's own material and check any claimed licence against the official register — in a market moving this fast, a claimed regulatory status is not a confirmed one.
